Business Summary
Premium Business Patterns
Devonshire uses the latest
County Business Patterns files at the County and ZIP Code levels to
provide data on the number of establishments, number of employees, and
number of establishments by employment-size class for all NAICS codes.
The data is provided annually by the Bureau of the Census.
Devonshire estimates non-disclosed information in the County
Business Patterns file at the County and ZIP Code levels. The
national averages are used to estimate the non-disclosed data for all NAICS. The final data for all NAICS are controlled at all levels
of geography.
Premium Occupation Patterns
The Standard Occupation
Classification Matrix obtained from the Census Bureau reports NAICS
codes for over 600 occupations. The information on each occupation
is reported as a percent of the occupation within a NAICS code as
compared to the total U.S. employment in the NAICS code. The file
includes information on wage/salary workers, self-employed and unpaid
family workers for all occupations. Additionally, the file also
contains projections to total employed, salaried, self-employed and
unpaid family workers for the year 2012.
In order to create county-level estimates, Devonshire
first applied Premium Business Patterns employment figures within a NAICS code to the Census Bureau's national percent of employment in an
occupation within the NAICS code. Second, Devonshire adjusts 2012
year projection data on occupations to create a current-year estimate.
This estimate is then applied to update the county-level estimates.
A similar procedure is followed to create ZIP
Code-level estimates.
